The Capital Region Energy Forum (New York State)

The Capital Region Energy Forum is a group of concerned citizens in the greater capital region of New York State, including engineers, scientists, educators, and students, who have come together to develop a common understanding of:

  • The key energy issues facing the U.S. and New York State, within a worldwide context.
  • The urgency of each and the time frame in which each must be addressed.
  • The environmental, economic, and security challenges presented by each major energy resource and feasible approaches to meeting these challenges.
  • The technical approaches, including conservation, that can contribute to an enduring and stable balance between energy supply and demand.
  • To fulfill its mission, The Capital Region Energy Forum (CREF)...

    • Holds monthly meetings, which feature experts in the field of energy, the discussion of important topics in the field of energy, and plan the group’s activities, and conduct general business.
    • Cosponsors the appearance of nationally acclaimed speakers, symposia and town meetings.
    • Provides speakers to community organizations to inform the public of important energy issues.
    • Meets with members of the press and electronic media to present energy issues in a non-political way.
    • Meets with other groups to promote energy independence and sustainability.

    WHAT CAN YOU DO ?

    You may not be able to control the price of energy, but you can control how much you use. You can:
    • Practice energy conservation.
    • Invest in energy efficiency in your home, workplace and your mode of transportation. (www.GetEnergySmart.org and www.NYSERDA.org)
    • Become informed about all energy sources and the pros and cons of each.
    • Align with like-minded groups to learn all you can and plan for the future.
    • Join CREF and receive e-notices of meetings and special events.
